Stipendium: Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships, Postdoc, Royal Holloway, London

The Music Department at Royal Holloway, University of London, invites outline proposals from postdoctoral scholars interested in applying for the 2024 round of Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships.

Deadline: 24.11.2023

Our department offers a dynamic and stimulating environment for research, underpinned by a commitment to social justice and an inclusive vision of the role of music in today’s world. We are part of the School of Performing and Digital Arts, in which we work closely with colleagues in Drama, Dance and Media Arts. The Music department has worldwide recognition for its outstanding and diverse research. We have expertise covering a broad chronology (from early music to contemporary) and geography (spanning the Americas, Asia and Europe). Our research clusters cross traditional disciplinary boundaries, integrating perspectives from the fields of creative practice, ethnomusicology, musicology, and theory. See further details here and here. We encourage interdisciplinary projects that draw on the expertise of other Royal Holloway departments. We have an excellent track record in mentoring postdoctoral scholars to complete successfully their projects and to gain further grant funding and/or permanent positions within academia.

For details of the Leverhulme scheme, see Early Career Fellowships | The Leverhulme Trust. Please pay close attention to the eligibility criteria.

We have an internal selection process for prospective candidates. If you are interested, please send to Professor Stephen Downes stephen.downes @ rhul.ac.uk by a deadline of 5pm on 24th November 2023 an outline proposal consisting of:

1. a one-page summary of the planned project, indicating research questions, research context, methods and outcomes;
2. a CV (maximum two pages);
3. a short statement (maximum one page) of how your project would intersect with research currently underway at Royal Holloway, specifying which departmental member(s) have given outline agreement to be your mentor. (Consult https://royalholloway.ac.uk/research-and-teaching/departments-and-schools/music/research/research-clusters/ for details of staff members.)

Candidates who successfully proceed through the internal selection process will then be invited to submit a full Leverhulme application supported by Royal Holloway, for which the closing date is 22 February 2024.
